Alison Milner Designer
I trained as a furniture designer at the RCA, but since then my work has developed and broadened and and now includes graphics, ceramics, furniture, exhibitions and education. I work at the intersection of craft, design and art. I am interested in the cultural context and meaning of objects and the materials and processes used in their manufacture. I am also very interested in the way that new digital technologies can be used in craft and especially how they can be combined with more traditional techniques. I like to include a large percentage of research and development in my work which results in the larger projects such as the exhibitions and book but later filters through to my on-going, designer-maker work. Graphically I am influenced by 50s design and in terms of subject matter I often refer to plant inspired imagery. Some designs are now for sale at www.notonthehighstreet.com
